A new report released today by MHI and Deloitte finds that 55% of supply chain leaders are increasing their supply chain technology and innovation investments with 60% saying they are planning to spend over $1 million. Nineteen percent plan to spend over $10 million.

This investment includes solutions for orchestrated, end-to-end solutions between tech and human workers, according to the 2025 MHI Annual Industry Report, “The Digital Supply Chain Ecosystem: Orchestrating End-to-End Solutions.” The report provides new insights into trends and technologies that are transforming supply chains and the priorities of the people who run them.

As a result of these increased investments, adoption of the 11 categories of technology covered in the report is predicted to rise over the next five years.

  • Inventory and Network Optimization – 92%
  • Cloud Computing and Storage – 91%
  • Sensors and Automatic Identification – 88%
  • Predictive Analytics – 87%
  • Robotics and Automation – 83%
  • Artificial Intelligence – 82%
  • Internet of Things – 77%
  • Wearable and Mobile Technology – 72%
  • Autonomous Vehicles and Drones – 64%
  • 3D Printing – 57%
  • Blockchain – 54%

The 2025 report, the twelfth in a series of annual industry reports published by MHI and Deloitte, provides updates on the innovative technologies that have the most potential to transform supply chains in an orchestrated way that maximizes performance gains while also empowering workers.

Today’s business environment is increasingly complex and volatile requiring a more integrated and agile approach to supply chain management. End-to-end supply chain orchestration, which seamlessly connects every stage of the supply chain, has emerged as a critical strategy for organizations to remain competitive.

“These are exciting times for the supply chain industry as we see the orchestration of technology and talent coming to the forefront,” said John Paxton, CEO of MHI. “The future of supply chains will center around striking the right combination of human talent and technology to enhance efficiency, transparency, and sustainability.”

AI Adoption is Surging

Adoption of artificial intelligence is expected to rise dramatically, with 28% reporting that it’s in use today, and another 54% reporting that they plan to have it in use within 5 years, making the 5-year total nearly triple that of today at 82% by 2029.

AI is already adding value in a wide range of supply chain processes, from inventory management to demand planning to logistics. Moving forward, supply chain organizations will be increasingly leveraging AI to enhance all aspects of their operations. Agentic AI—which can operate independently without human guidance or oversight—specifically has the potential to quickly and proactively address disruptions, enhance forecasting precision, and improve overall visibility within the supply chain.

“As the promise of agentic AI for warehouse process automation, real-time inventory visibility, predictive maintenance, and demand forecasting grows, high-quality data will be essential to utilizing this technology to drive efficiency and agility. Additionally, predictable and ethical behavior from AI solutions will be a focus.” said Paxton.

Inflation and Economic Uncertainty Top the List of Key Trends Impacting Supply Chains in 2025

According to this year’s respondents, the top five most impactful supply chain trends are: inflation (38%); economic uncertainty (37%); workforce and talent shortages (35%); supply chain agility and resiliency (28%); and inventory challenges (25%).

The Next Five Tech-Specific Trends Shaping Supply Chains

In addition to the five trends noted above, this year’s survey identified five additional tech-specific trends that are having a major impact on supply chain strategy and operations.

These key tech trends are:

  1. Cybersecurity and Data Security
For many businesses, the supply chain is a leading source of cybersecurity risk—and with supply chains’ growing reliance on technology and digitization, data security is sure to become an increasingly vital issue.
  2. Demand for Real-Time Data
Lack of access to accurate, real-time data is an ongoing barrier to achieving the vision and benefits of supply chain digitization and end-to-end orchestration.
  3. Digitization and the Pace of Technology Adoption
The dizzying pace of technological change in supply chains can be daunting for supply chain leaders and professionals alike. Yet, the pace will likely only accelerate as supply chain operations embrace AI in the pursuit of improved visibility, transparency and efficiency.
  4. Ecommerce Growth
Ecommerce growth is showing no signs of slowing. This is driving companies to find new and better ways to anticipate changes in demand and fulfill orders more quickly and accurately.
  5. Sustainability
Although supply chain sustainability is not strictly a technical issue, it remains a high priority and strategic differentiator for many firms.

“Leaders must ensure seamless integration of all supply chain components to enhance efficiency and meet customer expectations to further drive innovation, reduce redundancies, and deliver superior value,” said Wanda Johnson, Supply Chain Technology Fellow, Deloitte Consulting.

The report also provides real-world case studies of digital supply chain technologies and recommendations for leaders to develop strategies to implement these innovations.

The findings of the 2025 report are based on survey responses from over 700 manufacturing and supply chain industry leaders from a wide range of industries at the end of 2024. Eighty-three percent of respondents hold executive-level positions such as CEO, Vice President, General Manager, Department Head, or Engineering Management. • With recent investments, Siemens surpasses $100 billion in total U.S. investment over the past 20 years
  • New and expanded factories in Texas and California expected to create over 900 skilled manufacturing jobs
  • More than doubling production capacity of electric equipment to power critical American infrastructure such as AI data centers
  • Biggest-ever investment in industrial software and AI with planned acquisition of Altair Engineering
Siemens is ramping up investments in the U.S. to support and benefit from America’s industrial tech growth. “The industrial tech sector is the basis to boost manufacturing in America and there’s no company more prepared than Siemens to make this future a reality for customers from small and medium sized enterprises to industrial giants,” said Roland Busch, President and CEO of Siemens AG.

The U.S. is already the largest market for the company, relying on American talent and American supply chains. The recent investments in the company’s U.S. manufacturing footprint and the planned acquisition of Altair, a Michigan-based software company, amount to more than $10 billion.

This week, Siemens is unveiling two state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities for electrical products in Fort Worth, Texas, and Pomona, California. The $285 million investment is expected to create over 900 skilled manufacturing jobs. The equipment produced will support critical sectors such as the commercial, industrial and construction markets while powering AI data centers all over the country to support America’s leadership in the industrial AI revolution. With that Siemens is more than doubling its production capacity of electric equipment to power critical American infrastructure such as AI data centers.

Smarter software to help design America’s manufacturing renaissance

In October 2024, Siemens signed an agreement to acquire Altair.

The combination with existing software from Siemens will create the world’s most complete AI-powered design and simulation portfolio. This will allow users in America and all around the world to design and manufacture more complex and smarter products faster – by simulating in the digital world, first. They could for example do a virtual crash-test for a new car design; or calculate in advance how a cell phone reacts to drops and thus develop the design optimally, before they build it in the real world. Powerful AI tools help along the way.

“We believe in the innovation and strength of America’s industry. That’s why Siemens has invested over $90 billion in the country in the last 20 years. This year’s investment will bring this number to over $100 billion. We are bringing more jobs, more technology and a boost to America’s AI capabilities,” said Roland Busch.

Siemens employs more than 45,000 people in the U.S. and is partnering with about 12,000 suppliers nationwide.

E-Z LOK, a leading manufacturer and master distributor of threaded inserts for metal, plastic and wood, just announced it has received ISO 9001 certification. The announcement was made by Kyle Lindsly-Roach, Director of Sales & Marketing at the company’s Gardena, California headquarters.

With a quality management system that conforms to ISO 9001 standards in place, the company can now meet customer and other stakeholder needs within statutory and regulatory requirements related to their products.

E-Z LOK
ISO 9001 certificate.

The company started the certification process in January of this year because they saw the need for ISO certification to better support current and future customers. To do so, E-Z LOK partnered with a consulting company to design and build out their quality management system (QMS). Then, they implemented the QMS within their company. Lastly, the QMS was audited by an external company, thus verifying that the QMS was in place and effective.

Commenting on the benefits of the certification, Lindsly-Roach said, “This gives us the potential to work with OEMs and distributors who need a robust quality system in place for their vendors. It opens up additional business opportunities for us with those customers who require an ISO certification for their suppliers.”

ABB invests in strategic partnership with US start-up Molg to transform drive design and accelerate its contribution to the circular economy

  • Investment by ABB Drive Products to develop next generation products for circularity and resource-efficient future
  • Companies will develop design architecture for drive manufacturing by optimizing testing and assembly processes in Molg’s robotic Microfactories
  • Collaboration started in 2024, with ABB Robotics participation in Molg’s seed round of funding

ABB Motion’s Drive Products division has invested, through ABB Motion Ventures, in Virginia-based circular manufacturing company Molg to optimize manufacturing design and reusability of ABB drives. The collaboration will leverage Molg’s design expertise and US-based robotic Microfactories to streamline the assembly and testing processes within ABB’s manufacturing operations, while simultaneously increasing drives’ circularity and resource efficiency.

ABB and Molg’s relationship began in 2023 when the company was recognized as a winner of the ABB Accelerating Circularity Startup Challenge. ABB Drive Products and Molg have subsequently delivered a successful proof of concept in drives assembly in robotics-based Molg Microfactories and this fresh investment will enable the next phase of their partnership.

A central aspect of ABB Drive Products’ choice to invest in Molg is the firm’s circularity credentials. ABB is committed to achieving a full life cycle circular approach for 80 percent of its products by 2030 and Molg’s robotic Microfactories will help to improve the efficiency of manufacturing configured-to-order drives by streamlining the assembly and testing processes with automation. The investment strengthens ABB’s position as a key enabler of circular economy by re-using, re-purposing, and recycling components. ABB Robotics & Automation Ventures participated in Molg’s seed round of funding in October 2024 to help scale the start-up’s production capacity and tackle e-waste with robotics and design.

This strategic partnership follows ABB’s recent $100 million campus project in New Berlin, Wisconsin, and further enables its ‘local for local’ strategy – using locally-sourced materials for in-country manufacturing to service local customers. This is also a vital part of ABB’s circularity-based approach, not only minimizing waste and manufacturing-related carbon emissions, but providing crucial in-market support for companies across the supply chain.

“Our investment in Molg means we are part of an innovation ecosystem which develops new solutions for product circularity,” said Tuomo Hoysniemi, ABB Drive Products Division President. “This investment to develop our drives portfolio through recycling and reusing of components is aligned with our aims to increase circularity within our portfolio. What’s more, Molg’s Microfactories are especially suited to the ABB Drive Products’ customizable product range and will give us and increased ability to meet unique customer and market future requirements, while at the same time preserving valuable resources.”

“Winning ABB’s Accelerating Circularity Startup Challenge was great recognition for us, and we are even more excited to continue our collaboration with ABB Drive Products within circularity and automation,” said Rob Lawson-Shanks, CEO & Co-Founder of Molg. “We are thrilled to work with ABB Drive Products to design more circular products and create circular manufacturing processes for electronics to enhance supply chain resilience and ensure valuable materials are kept in circulation.”

The financial details of the investment have not been disclosed.

The Mazak Ez Series comes to Canada for the Western Manufacturing Technology Show (WMTS) in Edmonton. In booth #1205, Mazak will feature its QT-Ez 12MSY Horizontal Turning Center with Multi-Tasking capability and the VC-Ez 20 Vertical Machining Center, both from the Kentucky-built series of machines that puts Mazak quality and reliability within reach for virtually any shop with productive, space-saving efficiency at an affordable price.

For Multi-Tasking part processing, the QT-Ez 12MSY accommodates rotating tools and features two turning spindles along with Y-axis functionality for efficient single-setup DONE IN ONE® processing of a wide range of parts. While the machine comes standard with a 12″ chuck, Mazak offers smaller 8″ and 10″ options.

Like all QT-Ez Series machines, the QT-Ez 12MSY is equipped with powerful, dependable integral motor headstocks, Hybrid MX linear roller guideways and pre-tensioned ball screws supported at both ends for reliable, thermally stable and precise machine axis movement. A new bed casting design provides outstanding rigidity, as well as streamlined chip flow to help eliminate chip accumulation. For ease of integration, the machine incorporates a 200-230 volt power supply system.

Along with optional spindles, chuck sizes and tailstocks, the QT-Ez Series is available with a complete range of additional cost-effective and popular options.
